Fish Collecting Expedition to Colombia in July with
Anthony Inder Mazeroll, Ph.D.

Have you ever thought about collecting fish in the Amazon?  Well, here is your chance.  I will be heading to Leticia, Colombia
this summer again (I conduct research there on Discus and Angelfish...as some of you saw from my talk last month...If you missed it,
you missed a good one :-)) not to do research but to have fun. If you want to go to Colombia with me, I am going to be possibly
taking a few people down this summer for 7-10 days (mid-July) to do some fish collecting....

 Rough costs are:

Flight - approx. $1000.00 (based on LAX-LET)

Hotel - $50/day for 2 days in Bogota, approx $30/day in Leticia

Fishing Guide(s) - $20/day

Boat Cost - $30/day

Food - $15-$20/day (which is on the high side)

Fish Shipping Costs - depends on the amount

We need at least 5 or 6 people for the trip to make it cost effective.

We have the possibility of bringing back fish we catch.  We will be working with Savanah Tropical Fish in Bogota to ship the fish
to the states.  It is illegal otherwise to bring fish out.  Savanah primarily ships to Europe and he has a very clean facility.
I have imported fish from him this spring and they were great.  Please let me know if you are interested at:  ichthyology at yahoo
(you know the rest...to prevent spam)"

Hi Charlie:

I just found out that the article from the Reader is online, in its entirety.  This makes it easy to give it out to future members who may want to read it.  It's at http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/2008/apr/23/cover/

Oh, by the way.  I did an interesting post about a popular eating fish under my name on the history site, Apiladey ApilSin.  It was about the history of the name, halibut, and can be found here:  http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/Post/1065454

But that whole topic, titled Wacky Words, is fascinating.  http://www.ancientworlds.net/aw/Thread/451304

So far, I've done from the 'a's to the 'h's and although there are just over 300 posts in the topic, at least 200 of them are by me.  The topic has 20 posts linked to per page, and it's alphabetical.  You could go through it, page by page, looking for certain words, but all the origins are weird and so deserve to be read to find out what's weird about them.

See you guys soon

Bill Cline

Rudolph

There's Guppies and then there's Rudolph, the most famous guppy of all. And he's in my hatchery! Come see him, and lots of other wonderful things our members are doing on the hatchery tour, June 14th. Click Here for details.
